The device has a cylinder- or disk-shaped operating element (12) i.e. sensitive control key, reverse-detachably positioned on an operating surface (10) of the device. Functional parts (4-8) selected based in the specified relative position of the operating element, and/or a parameter of the functional parts are adjusted. A relative position of the operating elements selects the functional parts and/or variable secondary functions (14a-17a) for adjusting parameter value. The operating element is held on the operating surface by a magnetic force. An independent claim is also included for a domestic appliance for cooking food in a hob, comprising a vapor fume hood.
