PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for implementing an unregulated dormant mode with output reset in a power converter are provided to reduce the energy consumption of switch mode power converters using an unregulated dormant mode with output reset. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for implementing an unregulated dormant mode with output reset in a power converter comprises a control circuit(115). The control circuit controls the flow of energy and comprises an unregulated dormant mode and output reset control circuit(140) and a drive signal generation block(154). The unregulated dormant mode and output reset control circuit reduces the energy consumption of a power converter(100) under low-load or no-load conditions. The drive signal generation block generates a drive signal for driving a power switch(105).
