A subject table (600) comprising: a subject support (602) for receiving a subject (702) and a scissor mechanism (100, 200) for raising and lowering the subject support. The scissor mechanism comprises a first scissor link (104) and a second scissor link (102). The scissor mechanism further comprises a scissor pivot (106) which joins the first scissor link and the second scissor link. The second scissor link comprises a drive member (134). The scissor mechanism further comprises a linear drive element (138). The scissor mechanism is adapted such that linear motion of the linear drive element causes the drive member to follow a predetermined path (134).
