PURPOSE: A blue phase mode liquid crystal display device is provided to place a blue phase mode liquid crystal layer between a first substrate and a second substrate, thereby drastically reducing the volume of the blue phase mode liquid crystal display device. CONSTITUTION: A light source is located along with one edge of a first substrate(101). Light emitted from the light source is incident onto the first substrate. A second substrate(102) faces the first substrate. The second substrate forms thin film transistors on each pixel area. A blue phase mode liquid crystal layer(130) is placed between the first substrate and the second substrate. The blue phase mode liquid crystal layer has optical anisotropic features when a voltage is not applied to the blue phase mode liquid crystal layer. |
