<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide 5,6,7-Trihydroxyheptanoic acid and analogs. <P>SOLUTION: The method for using the 5,6,7-Trihydroxyheptanoic acid and the analogs and an ophthalmic composition containing the same is disclosed.
