A refractory composition comprises 1-5 wt. per cent potassium tripolyphosphate (K5P3O10), 0-3% plasticizer and the balance refractory oxide grain, e.g. periclase, chrome ore and mixtures thereof. The plasticizer may be a clay, e.g. bentonite or the hydroxyethyl or carboxymethyl derivative of guar gum. The composition may contain about 1% of a second chemical binder, e.g. chromic acid. |
