<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device and an image forming apparatus that are capable of more accurately reflecting a characteristic difference to image correction than in a configuration not including the present configuration, even in a case where the characteristics of photoelectric conversion elements disposed to sensor chips of an image reading section are different between adjacent chips. <P>SOLUTION: A correction data generation part 410 generates shading correction data SD for correcting an image read by a line sensor 43, on the basis of white reference data SD0 and SD1 sampled with a white-reference plate 49. A filter 414 of the correction data generation part smooths the white reference data that is an output of a photoelectric conversion element 431a of an image sensor by substituting each pixel with an average value of adjacent plural pieces of data, while excluding data in a detection excluded zone set at a border between sensor chips 431 and 432 from calculation of the average value used for the substitution. This makes it possible to prevent an erroneous filtering process that would otherwise smooth and interpolate a possible large difference in characteristics of photoelectric conversion elements at a border between chips with different production process conditions. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
