The object of the present invention is a method for winding a web reel by a carrier-roll winder (10), in which method, the web is wound around cores radially supported by a first (14) and a second carrier roll (12) or equivalent and in which the centre part of the reel is supported in the axial direction of the reel to a core locking device (20) by means of a core socket (31), which core locking device has a substantially vertical degree of freedom (22) and a horizontal degree of freedom (24). The winding event comprises at least a first step in which the motion of the centre of the reel being formed is guided in the direction of the substantially vertical degree of freedom of the core locking device (20) by displacing the first carrier roll (14) in relation to the second one and the substantially horizontal degree of freedom of the core locking device is lockable.
