Disclosed a coiled steel product comprising, carbon, manganese, silicon, and aluminum, at least one element from the group consisting of niobium or vanadium and having and having more than 70 percent niobium and/or vanadium in solid solution after coiling and cooling. Also disclosed is a method of preparing the above steel product comprising: assembling internally a cooled roll caster having laterally positioned casting rolls forming a nip between them, and forming a casting pool of molten steel supported on the casting rolls above the nip and confined adjacent the ends of the casting rolls by side darns, counter rotating the casting rolls to solidify metal shells on the casting rolls as the casting rolls move through the casting pool, and forming steel strip from the metal shells cast downwardly through the nip between the casting rolls, and cooling the steel strip, wherein the steel strip has the majority of the microstructure comprised of bainite and acicular ferrite and having more than 70 percent vanadium or more than 70 precent of vanadium and more than 70 percent of niobium in solid solution. |
