<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phaser having a phase difference variation that has low incident angle dependency and having a high heat resistance and light resistance. <P>SOLUTION: This phaser comprises a biaxial crystal and the biaxial crystal consists of inorganic substance. Assuming that, in the crystal, mutually orthogonal directions are defined as x direction, y direction and z direction, a refractive index in the x direction is defined as nx, a refractive index in the y direction is defined as ny and a refractive index in the z direction is defined as nz, the biaxial crystal satisfies the following expression nz>ny>nx; and when the x direction, the y direction and the z direction are so defined that the y direction runs along the vertical incidence direction of the incident light, satisfies the following expression, 0.6≤(ny-nx)/(nz-ny)≤1.5. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
