The operating device has a separate control element (24) that is arranged in a trough-shaped portion. The convex underside portion (25) is formed in control element corresponding to concave surface of trough-shaped portion such that control element is rotatably arranged inside trough-shaped portion to set operating conditions of the domestic appliance. A light exit region is formed in the region of concave surface of trough-shaped portion such that the light entering into light entry region (27) at underside portion of control element is coupled to light exit region. An independent claim is included for domestic appliance.
