<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element which is excellent in lifetime and driving voltage. <P>SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescent element is manufactured using an anthracene compound having a pyridylphenyl group as an electron transport material. The electron transport material is especially suitable for a blue light-emitting element, and thus allows manufacturing of a blue light-emitting element having an element lifetime equal to those of red and green light-emitting elements.
