The invention concerns a catalyst comprising at least one metal M from group VIII, tin, a phosphorus promoter, a halogenated compound, a porous support and at least one promoter X1 selected from the group constituted by gallium, indium, thallium, arsenic, antimony and bismuth. In 119Sn Mössbauer spectroscopy, the catalyst in the reduced form has a signal with a quadripole splitting value in the range 0 to 0.45 mm/s and an isomer shift, IS, in the range 1.5 to 2.4 mm/s with respect to CaSnO3, said signal representing in the range 1% to 30% of the total area of the signals.
