<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side member structure that can sufficiently absorb impact even when a load is applied to a side member in a diagonal direction. <P>SOLUTION: The side member 1 is formed with a plurality of polygonal line grooves 4-6 extending in a perpendicular direction with respect to a longitudinal direction of the side member 1. The polygonal line grooves 4-6 are cross-sectionally V-shaped grooves for bend-deforming the side member 1 when the load is applied to the side member 1. Further, a plurality of polygonal line grooves 7 extending in a wave shape along the longitudinal direction of the side member 1 are formed along faces of the side member 1. Each of the polygonal line grooves 7 is a cross-sectionally V-shaped groove for bend-deforming the side member 1 in a direction different from the bend-deforming by the polygonal line grooves 4-6 when the load is applied to the side member 1.
