1,141,784. Silenced nozzles. SOC. NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION. Jan. 17, 1968 [Jan. 18, 1967], No.2638/68. Heading F1J. A silenced nozzle comprises a duct 10 having pivoted flaps 21 at its downstream end, an annular compressed gas manifold 20 surrounding the duct and communicating with a piping arrangement 24, each pipe being mounted on a flap 21 and having a flexible section 25 allowing the pipe to move with the flap, silencing being achieved, when required, by jets of gas from the ends 16 of the pipes directed into the main gas stream. The end 16 of each pipe is of convergent-divergent form. The flaps 21 are pivoted about axes 22 normal to the nozzle axis and when silencing is required they are moved from the position shown in the upper half of Fig. 1 to the position shown in the lower half, a flexible bellows 25 permitting such movement. A fairing 11 surrounds the nozzle.
