<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a commodity selling system, an electronic money storage medium, and a method for managing expiration date, which facilitate managing an expiration date for commodities in various manners, and significantly reducing the burden on customers and shop clerks. <P>SOLUTION: A commodity selling processor obtains an identifier of a commodity, obtains commodity information and expiration date information on the commodity based on the identifier obtained, and sends them to the electronic money storage medium. Based on the commodity information received, the electronic money storage medium withdraws the price of the commodity from an electronic money balance for settlement, and stores the expiration date information in association with the identifier of the commodity.
