When a lens position is assumed on the basis of a control result by an AF control, the accuracy of the assumption of the lens position can be improved. A camera resets the position of a lens to a reference position when the number of AF operations, the number of frames for captured images, or the time exceeds a threshold value after the commencement of a continuous AF operation (step ST14). Consequently, accumulated errors of the assumed positions of the lens assumed on the basis of a control amount of an AF control unit are reset, and thus, the assumption accuracy of the lens position can be enhanced.
