High efficiency white light short-arc metal vapour discharge lamp. B6A. Of the type described in 1138913 comprises an initial discharge sustaining filling within the arc tube of inert ionizable starting gas (especially argon at a pressure of about 60mm/Hg) and, per cc. of the arc tube volume, 0.05-0.5 mg. ThI3, 0.07-0.5 mg. Dy metal, 0.2-1.5 HgI2 and 5-25 mg Hg. Upon full vaporization of the Hg and substantial vaporization of the Th and Dy a highly efficient white light is produced. Advantages are (i) High brightness (ii) good colour rendition and (iii) small size. Used for colour projection systems, colour photography and studio lighting for colour television. |
