[Also in Division E2] A locking device for preventing unauthorized use of a motor vehicle by preventing the operation of the hand brake lever 11, the clutch or throttle pedals, or the steering wheel, comprises a rod 28 which is slidable through a twopiece member 10 clamped by bolts 24 to the lever 11, and which is lockable relative to the member 10 by a key-operated barrel lock 38 in a position in which the adjuster bolt 58 in the rod 28 engages the floor of the vehicle to prevent release of the hand-brake. The rod 28 is formed with recesses 50, one of which is engaged by a detent carried by the barrel 38 when the device is locked. The barrel 38 has a peg which extends radially outward thereof to engage a helical slot formed in a barrel housing 36 forcefitted in the member 10, so that rotation of the barrel moves the barrel and detent axially. A peg 62 is provided to prevent withdrawal of the rod 28, but may be omitted or removably accommodated in the rod. The heads of the bolts 24 are arranged to shear off when tightened. |
