In an embodiment the upper polefaces of an annular permanent magnet 18, Fig. 2, is provided with a cover 26 of nylon and the lower pole-faces of an annular permanent magnet 15 is provided with a cover 23 of nylon. The cover 26, having a concentric wall 32, is press-fitted on to a core 16, an extension 20 of which is mounted in a frame 19. The cover 23, having an upwardly-extending wall 29, is press-fitted on to the outer surface of the upper magnet 15; and the cover 23 is provided with a downwardly-extending skirt 31. The magnet 15 is adhered to a flange 14 of a core insert 11, the latter is press-fitted on to a spindle 4 and has a bush 12 mounted therein which, along with a bush 22 mounted in the extension 20, supports a pintle 13. The covers 26, 23 are provided with holes 28, 27 respectively which receive the pintle 13 therein. In a modification a cover 37, Fig. 4, is press-fitted on to a lower magnet 18 which is adhered into an annular recess 36 of a body 20; and a cover 35 encapsulates an upper magnet 15.
