1,079,701. Metallurgical furnaces. KAWASAKI STEEL CORPORATION. Aug. 4, 1964 [Aug. 20, 1963], No. 30693/64. Heading F4B. A blast furnace for processing a metallurgical charge comprises a refractory lined body 6 having preheating gas supply pipes 3 and processing gas supply tuyeres 7 at opposite ends, and waste gas outlets 4, connected to an exhaust fan by a bustle 5, intermediate thereof. The charge is dispensed into the open top of the furnace by a conveyer belt 1. The preheating gases travel parallel to the charge in the preheating zone A and leave at the outlets 4; the processing gases travel in the opposite direction to the charge in the zone B and are extracted at the outlets 4. A further embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), comprises an inclined rotary furnace having a preheating burner at the charging end, a main burner at the discharge end and a central waste gas outlet. The process having preheating gases and processing gases travelling in opposite directions may be used for drying, roasting, hardening or smelting ores. |
