PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for distinguishing a target model in a synthetic aperture radar image are provided to accurately identify not only a target model but also a target through various characteristic vectors of SAR image. CONSTITUTION: A SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) image about an unidentified target is obtained(S1310). The SAR image is normalized(S1320). A polar image is generated by polar-mapping the normalized SAR image(S1340). A feature vector is extracted from the polar image(S1350). The model of the unidentified target is identified by comparing the extracted feature vector with the feature vector about the targets stored in a database(S1360,S1370,S1380).
