The engine has gas change valves (20, 21) comprising a hydraulic bucket tappet (30) with a cup (33) defining a hydraulic chamber (32) and movably guided into a hydraulic cylinder (31). A hydraulic working cylinder (34) is attached with the tappet, and has a pressure chamber (35) attached to the hydraulic chamber. The pressure chamber has an inlet (41) blockable by a pressure piston (36) that lies at a rotary cam (37). The cam sits on a cam shaft (39) that has a phase adjustor (40) for adjusting a phase position of the cam shaft with respect to a crankshaft.
