<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multifunction printer the height of which can be minimized even when a recording section having a carriage supporting a recording head and an image reading section having a self-propelled carriage are arranged side by side in the vertical direction. <P>SOLUTION: In a multifunction printer 11, a recording section 12 having a recording head 39 for recording on a sheet P2 and a recording carriage 34 which moves while supporting the recording head 39, and an image reading section 13 having a read sensor 50 for reading an image, a reading carriage 51 which moves while supporting the read sensor 50, and a motor 52 which is mounted on the reading carriage 51 in order to move the reading carriage 51 are arranged side by side in the vertical direction.
