The present invention provides a method of producing a liquid crystal display device that makes it possible to prevent the generation of an electric double layer on a horizontal photo-oriented film prior to forming a polymer, with little deterioration in display quality such as scorching, or non-uniformity in the display. The present invention is the method of producing a liquid crystal display device comprising: (1) a step of forming a liquid crystal layer containing polymeric monomers between a first substrate and a second substrate; (2) a step of heat annealing the liquid crystal layer at a temperature no less than 10°C higher than the liquid crystal phase-isotropic phase transition point temperature of the liquid crystal layer; (3) a step of forming a horizontal oriented layer that has been orientation treated by irradiation of light on the first substrate and the second substrate by the time of step (2); and (4) a step of polymerizing the polymeric monomers after the step (2). |
