1,209,610. Laying or removing railway sleepers. F. PLASSER. 8 Dec., 1967 [9 Dec., 1966], No. 55975/67. Heading E1G. In apparatus for laying or removing railway sleepers 8 while the track is held raised on blocks 13, a sleeper-gripper 7 is mounted on an element 6 which is longitudinally and angularly movable in a vertical tube 5 carried by a fixed jib 4 projecting from a bogie frame 1, the element 6 having a pin and guide-slot connections 14 with the wall of the tube 5 and the guide slot being shaped, e.g. as a trapezium, Fig. 4 (not shown), so that as the gripper is raised or lowered (e.g. under hydraulic control) the sleeper is partly rotated about a vertical axis to pass between the rails 12. The frame 1, which has a drive unit 17, is sufficiently light to be manhandled on to the block-supported track 12, and carries a cylinder 11 for adjusting the positions of stops 10' against which a sleeper is laid. The gripper 7, Fig. 3 (not shown) comprises a pair of arms (7') which hook on to the rail securing elements of the sleeper. Sleepers are moved to or from the gripper 7 by a low truck (29) Fig. 5 (not shown) cooperating with a ramp (28) and transport vehicle (27). |
