PURPOSE: A backlight unit and a liquid crystal display device with the same are provided to overcome limits about the size of a light emitting diode and the thickness of a light guide plate. CONSTITUTION: An upper surface of a bottom cover(170) is opened. A plurality of light source units(150) is arranged on an edge of the bottom cover. A light guide plate(140) converts light incident from the light source units into planar light. A light guide member is arranged among the light source units. The light guide member refracts light emitted from the light source units onto the light guide plate.
