PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing sialon is provided to obtain high functional refractory materials by mixing agalmatolite, aluminum, and silicon and synthesizing the sialon using self-propagating high-temperature synthesis method. CONSTITUTION: A method for manufacturing sialon includes the following: 60 to 80 parts by weight of agalmatolite and 20 to 40 parts by weight of aluminum. Sialon with 50 to 90% of purity is obtained using self-propagating high-temperature synthesis method under nitrogen atmosphere. 10 to 30 parts by weight of silicon metal powder or silicon metal is additionally added to the mixture in order to react with non-reacted alumina.
