PURPOSE: An image display device and a method for operating the device thereof are provided to vary the depth of a 3D image based on a rating, an age rating, or a user. CONSTITUTION: An image display device receives a 3D image(S1110). When the 3D image has a depth variation input, the image display device varies the depth of the 3D image based on a rating or an age rating of the received 3D image(S1125,S1135,S1145). An object for authorizing a password is displayed to vary the depth of the 3D image. The image display device displays a depth varied 3D image(S1140).
