PURPOSE: A dynamoelectric machine coil space block having a flow deflection structure on the coil oriented surface is provided to improve the cooling of a dynamoelectric machine rotor by re-directing refrigerant in a cavity. CONSTITUTION: A rotor comprises a plurality of adjacent coils and space blocks(340). The space block is contiguous to the space block and is arranged between coils which are contiguous in order to form one or more cavities(342). The space block secludes circular refrigerant flow within the cavity. The space block comprises a flow deflector structure formed on the top of the cavity oriented surface. The flow deflector structure comprises a single flow deflector structure. One or more cavities comprise a pair of cavities arranged on the opposite side of the space block. The space block materially includes a cross section of a T-shape.
