The recuperator system (100) has electrical energy storage (130) and a recuperator (110) for converting kinetic energy of a motor vehicle (105) into electrical energy. A route planning system is provided for determining an expected route of the vehicle. A controlling unit (140) is arranged that is initiated by the recuperator to provided energy in the energy storage. The controlling unit is arranged to simultaneously minimize a capacitance loss of the energy store formed by the initiation of energy in the energy storage device. Independent claims are also included for the following. (1) a method for optimizing use of an energy storage for a recuperator on board of a motor vehicle; and (2) a computer program product with program code unit for executing energy storage use optimizing method.
