PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a contact product giving a catalyst for addition polymerization with high activity and higher copolymerizability; a method for producing the contact product; a catalyst for addition polymerization using the contact product; and a method for producing an addition polymer using the catalyst for addition polymerization.

SOLUTION: The method for producing the contact product comprises bringing a compound expressed by formula [1]: M(L1)2into contact with a specified compound. In the formula, M represents a Group-XII atom in the periodic table; and L1represents a 1-20C hydrocarbyl group, wherein the two L1s are mutually the same or different.
