<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard surface detergent composition containing a specific butyl carbitol solvent excellent in solvent odor controlling effect and exhibiting excellent cleaning power and foamability in spraying. <P>SOLUTION: The hard surface detergent composition includes: (A) 0.1-20 mass% of a butyl carbitol solvent containing a substance with molecular weight 50-300 except a principal component in an amount showing a peak area ratio of 0.5% or less to a peak area of the solvent in a head space GC-MS analysis; and (B) 0.1-20 mass% of a surfactant selected from an anionic surfactant [except a (B3) component], a nonionic surfactant and an acylated amino acid.
