The present invention relates to a composite oxide for exhaust gas purifying catalyst, comprising Ce, Bi, M (wherein M is one or more elements selected from Mg, Ca, Sr, and Ba), R (wherein R is one or more elements selected from Zr, Pr, and Tb), and oxygen, with a molar ratio of Ce, Bi, M, R expressed by Ce:Bi:M:R=(1-x-y-z):x:y:z, satisfying 0<x<=0.4, 0<y<=0.4, 0<z<=0.5, and x+y+z<1, wherein the composite oxide carries platinum-group elements. |
