PURPOSE: A permanent magnet motor and a washing machine are provided to control an amount of magnetic flux of a permanent magnet by arranging the permanent magnet with two kinds of coercive forces in a core of a rotor. CONSTITUTION: A stator has a lot of teeth(4a) wound with coils. A rotor has a ring shape by arranging a plurality of divided cores. The rotor includes a plurality of magnet insertion holes which form a magnetic pole by inserting a permanent magnet into each divided core. The rotor is rotatably installed with regard to the stator. A permanent magnet(12b) with a relatively large coercive force is inserted into the magnet insertion hole in a boundary between divided cores. A permanent magnet with a relative small coercive force is inserted into the magnet insertion hole except the boundary between divided cores.
