A protective garment or chest protector (10) is provided, that is suitable for use in conjunction with a neck brace (12), or without. The chest protector (10) includes a front panel (24), a rear panel (26) and two shoulder potions (28). A strap (46) is attached to each shoulder portion (28) at its ends (48,50) so that it has a free length in-between. The position of each strap's (46) free length corresponds to the position of a lateral wing (22) of the neck brace (12), so that the strap (46) can extend across the wing (22) and assist in holding the neck brace (12) in position.
