The invention relates to the field of mechanical engineering and can be used as a continuously variable transmission for vehicles, including those with hybrid propulsion systems. The invention is presented with two variants. In both variants, the power passes from an engine 2 via a clutch 3 to an input shaft 1, from where said power is divided into flows passing through a differential mechanism 7, where the power flow is divided a first time, and also through differential mechanisms 9 and 10, where the power flow is divided a second time, said differential mechanisms 9 and 10 together forming a differential unit 11, and no more than 15% of the full power flows through electrical or hydrostatic energy-generating machines 5 and 8, which form, together with the differential mechanism 7, a variable component. As a result, the efficiency of the proposed multirange continuously variable transmission is increased to approximately 0.95, while the power and the mass of the energy-generating machines are reduced sharply. A matching planetary gear 16 used in the invention makes it possible to efficiently match the rotation frequencies produced by the differential unit 11 without any interruption to the flow of power. Furthermore, two of the four or six gears in the matching gear are direct gears, which substantially simplifies the transmission device and increases the efficiency thereof. In the first variant of the invention, the gear makes it possible to produce a total variation range of approximately 10 at an efficiency of at least 0.95. In the second variant, this range tends to infinity, i.e. the rotation frequency of the output shaft starts from zero. An embodiment of the invention is possible in which an operator can, if desired, convert the gear to any given embodiment which is the most suitable for the current operating conditions of the vehicle.
