The invention provides a dish washer. A turbidity detection portion is arranged in a washing tank of the dish washer and at the position higher than the highest water level of a storage portion for storing the washing water. The turbidity of the washing water supplied by a liquid spray port of the cleaning portion is detected by the turbidity detection portion. Thus when the cleaning water is notsupplied to the cleaning portion, the washing water is not present on the turbidity detection portion. The adhesion condition of the dirt, such as the water scale or oil floating on the water surfaceof the washing water, on the turbidity detection portion is lightened and the turbidity of the washing water is accurately detected by the turbidity detection portion.
