摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely estimate the absolute position of its own vehicle by reducing errors of GPS positional information. SOLUTION: A position estimating apparatus is equipped with a GPS sensor 11 for detecting GPS positional information of own vehicle; a receiving section 12 for receiving GPS positional information, detected respectively by one or more other vehicles traveling on the same lane as own vehicle; and a vehicle lateral position estimating section 17 for estimating the absolute position in the lateral direction, with respect to the travel direction of own vehicle, based on the GPS positional information of own vehicle detected by the GPS sensor 11 and the GPS positional information of the other vehicles detected by the receiving section 12.
