Prodn. of pellets or briquettes from burnt lime is improved by exposing the lime, prior to compacting, to steam until the water content of the lime reaches 1-10 wt.%. No other binder is used. The product is esp., suitable for use as a converter additive in prodn. of steel. The pellets or briquettes have high mechanical strength.
