A fixed, heatable snubbing pin suitable for use in the stretching or heat setting of filaments comprises a cylindrical metal pin 6 surrounded by a replaceable ceramic or metal sleeve 7 wherein the sleeve is held in place by means of a cylindrical resilient element, preferably a basket spring 13 (Figs. 1 and 2) or a tolerance ring 22 (Fig. 3). The metal pin 6, which consists of two sections 10 and 11 of different diameters, is fixed to a frustrum 3 by means of a screw 9 and may be heated by a heating medium flowing in the pipe 2 to which the frustrum 3 is welded. The basket spring 13, which comprises sprung strips 15 separated from one another by incisions 16 and a slot 17 extending over its entire axial length, or the tolerance ring 22, which consists of circular sprung sections 23, bent in the form of waves, and a similar full-length slot, surround the section 11 of the pin 6 defined by the collar 12 and the end face 14 of section 10. When the sleeve 7, whose internal diameter is smaller than the external diameter of the expanded element 13 or 22, is pushed on to the pin 6 over a basket spring 13 or tolerance ring 22 it reduces the diameter of the element, and correspondingly increases its length, so that the compressed section of the element bears against the bore of the sleeve and thus holds it in position on the pin. Section 10 of the pin 6, which is not covered by the replaceable sleeve, is surrounded by an insulating jacket 18 to increase heat transfer between the heating pipe 2 and the surface of the stretching or heat setting pin.
