<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an escalator configured not to catch an object between steps and a skirt guard. <P>SOLUTION: The escalator 1 includes the steps 3, the skirt guards 5, belts 11 and rollers 12. The steps 3 are operated to circulate between an upper floor 101 and a lower floor 102. The skirt guards 5 are arranged on both sides of the steps 3. The belts 11 are arranged facing at the side parts of the steps 3 in a range of moving aslant between the upper floor 101 and the lower floor 102, and move circulating along the moving direction of the steps 3.
