<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water cooler/heater which eliminates the need for additional piping for adjusting a water level in a vessel, and has a low height so as to reduce the volume thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The water cooler/heater includes: a case provided with a tank for storing water; a top cover which is placed at the upper end of the case, and on the upper surface of which a vessel is mounted; a water guard which is attached to the lower end of the top cover, and has a guide space communicating with a passage formed for guiding the water stored in the vessel into the interior of the case; a packing part which is stored in the guide space, and tightly closes the passage in an alternative manner; and a floating body which supports the lower end of the packing part upward, and has a hollow chamber. The packing part is placed on the central upper surface of the floating body. When the floating body is lifted by a buoyant force, the packing part rises so as to tightly close the passage.
