<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact, space-saving, and low-cost filter press of a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: In this operation method of the filter press, a loose head is moved in the thickness direction of a filter plate to fasten a group of filter plates by a fastening means provided between the loose head disposed outside of a filter plate at one end side of the group of filter plates, which is made extendable/contractable and openable/closable in the thickness direction thereof and consists of a plurality of filter plates, and a reaction force seat body constituting a reaction force body for the movement of the group of filter plates into the thickness direction of the filter plate, which is fixed to the ground or which is capable of moving in the moving direction of the loose head. After that, a reaction force receiving means disposed between the loose head and the reaction force seat body is moved in the thickness direction of the filter plate to come to contact with the loose head, and receives the reaction force which tries to move the loose head to the opposite side of the fastening direction.
