1298080 Elastic binders BERGER BROS CO 10 Dec 1969 [24 Dec 1968] 60246/69 Heading A5R [Also in Division A3] An elastic binder 10 is formed of elastic strips 11 which are elastic lengthwise and substantially inelastic widthwise, the strips being joined together lengthwise in pairs to form combined strips which are then joined in pairs at measured intervals along their lengths with the strips overlapped, and means are secured to the ends of the binder to join the ends together in body-encircling form. The pairs of elastic strips are joined together by two elastic bands 12 stitched along their lengthwise edges to the elastic strips; the elastic bands are also joined at their midpoints 14 to form a double lip, Fig. 5. The elastic strips may alternatively be joined by overlapping them and stitching them together directly (Fig. 6, not shown). The two combined strips are overlapped and the free edge of one combined strip is stitched at measured intervals 16 to the other combined strip. The free edge of the second strip is cut away in a parabolic curve 17 to reduce the thickness of the binder. In use this cut-away portion is placed over the injury, thus reducing pressure thereon. The ends 19 of the binder 10 are cut so that one edge is shorter than the other edge to ensure that the binder fits well around the body part. A tape 21 with a row of hooks 23 is sewn inside the binder at one end and a tape 20 with two rows of eyes 22 is sewn outside the binder at the other end, for securing the binder around the body part.
