<p>Apparatus for purifying sewage by oxidation of the sewage constituents with oxygen-containing gases or with oxygen in the presence of solid catalyst particles under atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature, which apparatus consists of a round cylindrical reaction tower (1) having at its top a discharge device (2) and being provided with a conical bottom (3) and at least one rising pipe (4). In the lower part of the conical bottom (3) there is, per rising tube (4), a liquid propelling nozzle (5) which acts as a feed device and produces a flow. In each rising tube (4) there are arranged, 3 to 4.5 m beneath the water surface (6), aeration devices (7) through which oxygen is introduced into the sewage and the flow of sewage is enhanced.
