<p>702,172. Pyrometers. METROPOLITANVICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. June 18, 1952 [June 19, 1951], No. 14538/51. Class 97(3) [Also in Group XL(b)] Apparatus for determining the temperature of molten metal 2 (Fig. 1) in a furnace 1 comprises a spring-loaded rod 3 which is dipped into the liquid 2 until its temperature has risen to that of the liquid, and then withdrawn to a standard position where its temperature can be determined by a photo-cell 14. The rod 3 slides at the end of a piston rod 4 in a cylinder 5, being normally held in the raised position by a spring 11, and held down in the liquid 2 during sampling by a latch 13, which on tripping rapidly brings the rod 3 to the measure position opposite photo-cell 14. In a modification the rod 3 is moved pneumatically. The output of the photo-cell 14<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 3) is amplified by valve VI, and charges condensers C1 and C2 to operate a voltmeter 18, condenser C2 being subsequently discharged by the operation of a switch 17. Specification 697,879, [Group XXXVI], is referred to.</p> |
