It is provided an inspection device (1) for mechanical elements (6) and the like comprising a main axis (6a) and a side surface (6b), which device is adapted to inspect at least part of said side surface (6b) and comprises a supporting structure (2), lighting means (3) adapted to illuminate the side surface (6b) in a grazing manner and at least one optical unit (4) adapted to frontally take the image of the side surface (6b).
