<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet recording apparatus capable of suppressing an ink discharge amount associated with air bubble suction and discharge operation to be small by suppressing the number of execution of the suction and discharge operation of air bubbles penetrating an ink supply line to be necessary minimum, and a method of controlling the inkjet recording apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The volume A of air bubbles penetrating into an ink supply line is estimated on the basis of the elapsed time since the last air bubble suction discharge operation, and in addition, the volume B of air bubbles penetrating the ink supply line during the main tank installation is estimated.
