BUFFER CONTROLLING METHOD AND BUFFER CONTROLLER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the capacity of an internal buffer.

SOLUTION: A buffer controller includes: determination processing means that measures a sum of data accumulated in an internal buffer and an external buffer and sets a threshold flag to A when the amount of data exceeds a predetermined threshold and sets the threshold flag to B when the amount of data falls below the predetermined threshold; external buffer activation instruction control processing means that instructs the external buffer to activate when the threshold flag is A and instructs the external buffer to stop when the threshold flag is B and the external buffer is empty; accumulation destination control processing means that determines the accumulation destination of an input packet to be an internal buffer/external buffer when the threshold flag is B/A; accumulation control processing means that accumulates the input packet into the internal buffer/external buffer according to the accumulation destination of the input packet; accumulation information management processing means that manages the accumulation destination and a packet length of the input packet; and read control processing means that outputs packets from either one of the internal buffer or external buffer according to information managed by the accumulation information management processing means.
